CUMBIA originated in Columbia as a folk dance. It is a Latin- American music genre (like Salsa,
Merengue, Samba) with heavy Mexican influences. Popular Cumbian dance bands fuse Mexican
and Caribbean rhythms, using the unique sound of Guacharacas, Maracas, Gaita Flute, Tambora,
Bongos steel guitar, & piano. Traditional & modern instruments are sometimes combined with a
lead vocalist.
